AK Fashion & Portraits
ALAN KEOHANE started his career photographing people. Dancers at the London Contemporary Dance Theatre (where Alan had his first job as photographer in residence) and Berbers in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco while working on his first book.
His love of people photography is strongly reflected in his style. The model is natural and at ease, but the composition and lighting is very studied. Alan's fashion and portrait photographs are often very contrived in that the locations and lighting are carefully selected and constructed to create a mood or dramatical effect.
After many years working with television crews and doing publicity stills for the BBC and HBO, Alan Keohane's ideas of lighting and stage setting are very influenced by film. Locations become sets in which the fashion becomes costume and the model a character. The photographs are still instants of a story and the model is much more than simply a clothes horse and the fashion is infused with personality.
Alan Keohane works both in the studio and on location.
He is particularly in demand as a portrait photographer espeacially for those in the creative professions such as actors, artists, designers, film makers, musciains and writers.
The cool, glamorous look of his fashion images, with their emphasis on technical perfection, makes his style ideal for catalogue photography.
